The predominance of the river in The Gambia makes for an ideal location for fishing. The waters of The Gambia River, its mangrove creeks and the adjoining Atlantic Ocean provides an abundance of marine and freshwater fish. Its not surprising therefore to see magnificently stocked market stalls with Snappers, Barracuda and Ladyfish or indeed many an A la Carte Menu with such fine dishes served in the numerous Hotels and Restaurants of Banjul and Serrekunda. No Fish No Pay is a slogan used for several years by fishing trip operators but already there are murmurings by one such local operator No Barracuda No Pay". Why not take a 3 day safari, 230 miles to McCarthy Island. The area provides an abundance of fresh water fish in an unspoilt and beautiful setting including Tiger Fish, Vundu Catfish, Sharptooth Catfish, Zambizi Pike, Characins and Threadfin Salmon. Then there's beach fishing suitable for experts and novices alike along the gambian shoreline. Try and catch yourself a 100lb Guitar Fish! Or maybe a family day out creek fishing among the mangroves and wrecks in Banjul harbour where a variety of tasty fish can be easily caught. |
